Senay and Robert met when they were both working in the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, Turkey. Istanbul native Senay met Robert, a born-and-raised New Yorker, on Robert’s first day as a diplomat in 2018. Robert had only been on the job for a few minutes when Seney walked down a flight of stairs and into his life!
The two became fast friends, and Seney soon took on the unofficial role of Robert’s tour guide and translator. It wasn’t long before Robert asked Seney to be his girlfriend. She refused him twice, despite many close friends telling her that Robert was a keeper. Things changed when they took a trip to Eskisehir, and Seney began to see Robert in a new light, and expressed that the romantic feelings were reciprocated. Robert opted to extend his assignment in Istanbul so that he and Seney could continue to build their relationship. Before they knew it, Robert and Seney were making wedding plans! They planned to be married on May 14, 2020 at a large ceremony in Istanbul. Of course, those plans fell through due to the pandemic, and instead they had an intimate ceremony on June 9th.
Though Seney and Robert may have said “I Do” in front of only a handful of people, they did get the chance to celebrate their love with all their family and friends this past fall! The reception of their dreams took place in Robert’s native New York City, at the University Club. As guests arrived for cocktails they were greeted by beautiful music played by Around Town Entertainment’s Harpist. Once cocktail hour was in full swing, guests mingled, congratulating the happy couple and tapping their toes to their favorite Jazz standards—courtesy of Around Town’s Jazz Trio!
Soon it was time to head upstairs to the reception! Seney and Robert entered the ballroom to Beyonce’s “Freedom,” played by Around Town’s Authority Band. For their first dance, the band played “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra. As they danced, Seney and Robert looked at each other lovingly, it was clear they had been waiting for this moment for a long time. After the slow dance, the party was kicked off with the traditional Turkish dance, Erik Dali, celebrating Seney’s heritage and also reminding the couple of where their story began. The high energy continued as the band followed that up by playing some other upbeat favorites, like “Don’t Stop the Party” by Pitbull.
For the cake cutting, the band played “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. The guests let out some “aw’s” as Seney and Robert shared that first slice of cake. After dessert, it was time to keep the party going with more music! The Authority Band played all of Seney and Robert’s favorite songs, including NK’s “Elefante” and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi. The Band finished off the night by playing “New York’s My Home” by Ray Charles, celebrating the fact that Seney and Robert have begun a beautiful life together in New York City.
Thanks, Seney and Robert for having the Authority Band “start spreading the news” that you’re beginning your new life together in the big apple!
